Labour has only been in power for a few months, but Rushmoor is already feeling the negative effect of this administration. Below, we have highlighted just a few of the destructive changes that are taking place in Rushmoor thanks to Keir Starmer’s Labour – and that’s before we take into account the disastrous budget, which will be covered in another article.
Winter Fuel Cuts. Labour’s proposal to remove the Winter Fuel Allowance has plunged tens of thousands of pensioners into a perilous position this winter. With many already barely able to get by, this cut will have a drastic and brutal effect on their wellbeing. In Rushmoor alone, it is estimated that approximately 14,000 pensioners will be affected. Since this cruel policy was announced, Conservatives across Rushmoor have been doing their best to lobby both national and local government to try and lessen its effects.
- VAT rise on private school fees. This policy is being rushed through with minimal consultation, and with many commentators questioning the financial analysis behind the initiative. Either way, this is likely to bring chaos to Rushmoor’s schools as many parents find themselves unable to afford private school fees. It is estimated that an extra 1,400 pupils will be looking for spots in our local state system. This will put significant pressure on our schools, leading to larger classes and many being forced into lengthy commutes.
- Released prisoners. Labour is making a hash of releasing prisoners to free up jail spaces. The national media have already documented in detail the numerous violent and dangerous criminals who have been released either in error, or through poor judgement. Although it is unclear the numbers that will be released around Rushmoor, this sends a worrying message to other criminals whilst simultaneously undermining residents’ confidence in Law and Order on our streets.
Over the coming months and years, we will continue to highlight the damage Labour is doing to our community. We will always fight for what we know is right, and for what is best for Rushmoor. ANHCA is doing its best to counter these dangerous and insensitive policies, but we need your support more than ever. If not a member of ANHCA, then do follow us on Facebook – every little helps!
