I've also had the opportunity in recent weeks to pay tribute to some of the fantastic charitable work in our local area.
Alf Turner Butchers - set-up on North Lane, Aldershot over 65 years ago and still trading there today - recently reached an incredible milestone; £250,000 raised for leading Armed Forces and veterans charity, Help For Heroes. Ten years after entering the Dragons' Den - securing investment from Peter Jones - and with over 12.5 million products sold since, their achievement is nothing short of phenomenal. These funds are helping change lives everyday.
Improving mental health support for children and young people is also so vitally important. Headroom - a young people’s charity based in Aldershot - is doing some brilliant work with 11 to 25 year olds and their families across Rushmoor, Hart and Waverley. I sat down with their founder, Sue (pictured below), to discuss the charity’s services locally, and her aspiration to expand their specialist support to even more young people across our area.
